Others have New Year's resolutions to get fit, mine's to build an app in hopes of getting fit.
Fun fact, I built something like this over 10 years ago but never released it. Co-founder issues, if you must know. I called it Träna Fit, träna being the Swedish word for train. I remember hiring a voice actor on Fiverr to record every rep count.
Fast forward to today and the models are good enough to do much of this, and more. Pasta is a personal trainer app for iPhone. You ask for a workout by voice or text, Apple's Foundation Models build it, and a small voice model running on the phone (Kokoro-82M) guides you as you train.
When it comes to planning and generation, I have to admit it still has plenty of room for improvement. I grade what it writes with evals. My favorite catch so far: I asked for a 500 kg deadlift for 100 reps, and the model built it, no questions asked. I'm hoping to make the evals better as I get more feedback on what's working and what's not. Over time, I'd like it to come as close as possible to what a certified personal trainer would build for you based on your goals and needs.
I also realize that getting fit and working out isn't solely about knowing what to do. There's also the motivation + accountability part, and I do have some ideas on the roadmap that I'll share later. And I swear, it's not gamifying your health and fitness results.
You'll need an iPhone with Apple Intelligence on iOS 27, and it's free for 7 days. Give it a try. I'd love to know what you ask it for first, and whether you'd do the workout it builds.
