Show HN: Koody for Business – AI bookkeeping for people who aren't accountants

https://koody.com/business
2•Halimah•1h ago
Hi HN, I'm Hallie, founder of Koody. Today, I'm launching Koody for Business: AI-powered accounting, bookkeeping, and tax prep software for sole proprietors and small businesses.

For years, I used accounting software for my business. I went into it to create invoices, categorize and reconcile transactions, and work with my accountant to prepare our books. I often dreaded having to do it. There were so many transactions to get through in a handful of different currencies, and I found the whole process draining.

The software I used (and refuse to name) worked really well. It was capable accounting software, and I'm not trying to suggest otherwise. But for me, accounting had become a bit like going to the dentist. You know it's necessary and useful, but that doesn't stop you from feeling anxious about it or wishing you didn't have to go.

What makes this personal is that I've always been good at accounting. Throughout secondary school, I was the best student in every financial accounting class. I was also the class prefect, so I would regularly collect everyone's homework and take it to the staff room for submission. My accounting teacher used to ask me to put mine on top because she used it as a marking guide.

I then went on to study finance in undergrad and eventually earned an MBA. So accounting isn't an unfamiliar subject to me, yet dealing with my own books made me extremely sad and anxious.

I'm building Koody for Business because I want business owners to see accounting through my original lens: something simple and enjoyable that doesn't require a degree to understand.

Koody automatically categorizes business income and expenses and uses those transactions to produce cash flow insights, profit and loss reports, and records for Schedule C and tax prep.

There are two workspaces: personal and business. The business workspace lets you manage your business finances separately from your personal finances, even when you use the same bank account for both, as many sole proprietors do. You can keep each transaction in the appropriate workspace, so personal spending stays out of your business reports. You can use Koody just for your business, just for your personal finances, or for both.

Give Koody for Business a try at koody.com/business. I'd love to hear what you think.
