Ask HN: Do people who use AIs, ChatGPT and Claude stop thinking for themselves?

Some of them do, some of them don't.

A lot of people ask questions like "How do I deal with a pile of A.I. written code that I don't understand?" and I'd answer with "Ask the A.I. how it works?" but better yet in the process of writing the software you should be asking questions all the time and asking the A.I. to ask you questions.

Microsoft Copilot told me that it mirrors the thinking and communication style of the user so if you are smart it will be smart, if you are lazy it will be lazy, etc. Terrence Tao gets more talking with A.I. about math than other people do because he's thinking along with it, not expecting it to give him the answers.

Not all, but there are such cases. My coworker was an example and they did not renew his contract, probably for that reason among others.
