Tell HN: The Amount of Irrelevant Content on Here Is Insane

3•alephnerd•1h ago
After following the advice of a long term HNer who I trust, I created my own HN filter to auto-hide all posts with high negative sentiment polarity or non-technical relevance (I like HN but I don't need some rando telling me about how my day job works), and it's finally gotten back to the pre-2022 experience.

The crazy thing is the amount of material being hidden - I'm seeing almost 200-300 submissions being blocked a day, and it is these submissions that appear to be driving the bulk of conversation on HN now.

> filter to auto-hide all posts with high negative sentiment

You might just be witnessing the backlash to YC's increased investment in defense and surveillance companies. In general, the startup pendulum is shifting away from the populist B2C status quo we used to have during the SaaS days.

alephnerd•57m ago
You're one of the biggest reasons I built the filter to be honest. At this point, if I see you and a couple of other commentators comment I may as well just auto-hide the entire discussion.

There are a couple accounts that have deeply polarized sentiment and patterns of speech and yours is one of them. I haven't extended it to comments and commenters yet, and if I did I would.

But in the interim please stop chatting with me and vice versa. I have better stuff to do with my time and other people IRL and on this platform whose opinions and pushback I prefer.

perhaps you should get off HN if you don't like it, your comment is aggressive and breaks the rules, as does the original post

Does it hide posts with whiney complaining about how all the uncool people are ruining your fav whiney complaint site for you and all your cool friends?

Have a good cry and then complain some more.
