Foldocs creates static HTML pages out of a (shared) folder of documents in Google Drive (or Nextcloud!): (sub)folders become (sub)sections on the site, and documents inside them become pages. Does it work? Proof is to be found in the pudding: Foldocs.com, the site that explains Foldocs, is itself a Foldocs site! The underlying Google Drive is here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZRYhiIGfSeIcA_gjRVgT....
Foldocs is an open source (AGPL 3.0) Python engine anyone can run. It currently supports three themes, dark mode, and an RSS feed. You can also try it out by creating a preview on https://try.foldocs.com. Paste a shared folder link, and see a preview (kept for 7 days, limited in files / size, and only syncs manually). Previews are running on a separate domain and a throwaway VPS, since hosting strangers' content on the internet is... scary.
Curious to hear what you think of the concept, learn what breaks (but don't try too hard please), what you run into, and/or what is missing!
