Show HN: Play Nightmare – the 1991 VHS board game, with a TV and phones

https://playnightmare.app/
1•msukmanowsky•1h ago
Just in time for Halloween!

For those of you born in the 80s and 90s, you may remember Nightmare (or Atmosphere).

You'd head to a friend's basement, turn off all the lights, turn the volume up and giggle whenever someone screamed "YES MY GATEKEEPER!" at a TV.

I've got kids now and I wanted to experience this all over and share it so you can play with your friends and family. Of course the original board game can't be beat and I'd encourage y'all to play that too!

I haven't had a ton of time to test and feedback is very welcome.

This is a free and unofficial fan project, not affiliated with the original designers and publisher (Brett Clements, Phillip Tanner, A Couple 'A Cowboys and J. W. Spear & Sons). All credit to them for creating a game I loved enough to try to capture a tiny bit of the original magic.

(And yes, of course, thank you to my friend Claude Opus 5.5 for all the help in building this.)
