My workstation has always been the most powerful compute station in my homelab but it usually spends the majority of the day idling while I work or signed out while I sleep. Making it useful to the homelab at large can often mean choosing between turning it into another cluster node or fighting with virtualization and passthrough.
vacancyd is my open-source project that allows a hybrid option. Your workstation keeps its operating system and applications while other home-lab applications borrow spare capacity for local AI. You choose what resource they borrow and when.
A gate checks new requests before they reach local AI services. Work already accepted and running can be drained immediately or gracefully. The owner console shows what's available and why a request was refused.
