Google will start mandating Passkeys for parts of the account

2•edelind•57m ago
From the latest email notification: "Google is transitioning to a more secure, password-free future. A Google passkey will soon be required for performing certain sensitive account actions - you will see an in-account notification when it applies to your Google Ads account. Set up a Google passkey today to keep your account secure and avoid any disruptions."

After all these HN debates, "Passkeys are good or bad", "Never use Passkeys", etc, now Google ends this by starting to mandate them for business needs. Other big tech companies will follow for sure. Everything "for the user", of course.

I know that many dislike passkeys, but I have to say I’m not a fan of modern password UX either.

Unique password for every new account, tens (?) of accounts, so you need a password manager…

I guess it’s not terrible, but I feel like it could be better.
