All but the opening is behind a paywall, but the author is an Associate Professor in Book and Publishing Studies, University of Reading, and has an article on the university’s research blog that looks like it may cover some of the same material:

At a glance, I seem to have read about two from every three years. (It helps when there are gimmes like Austen, Tolstoy, Waugh.) One that I hadn't thought of in many years is The Man-Eaters of Kumaon. Read in high school or in junior high?
