Show HN: Bridgit – In-Person-First Networking

https://www.bridgitsocial.com/
3•amfooladgar•8mo ago
I recently launched Bridgit Social, an iOS app that helps people discover and connect with others who are physically nearby — either in the same place or within walking distance, to meet in-person, HERE and NOW!

The goal is to make meeting new people feel simple, immediate, and grounded in real-world presence — not through long online exchanges.

This project started from a personal need to expand both my personal and professional networks. I had used various social networking apps and grew frustrated that most of them led to long online conversations, but rarely resulted in real-life interactions — where the actual human connection actually begins!

I wanted something built specifically to support in-person connections, while respecting privacy and giving users full control. You can think of it as a way to bring some of the value of LinkedIn into real-world, in-the-moment interactions.

This is still an early version and I’d love feedback — technical, UX, or conceptual. Especially interested in hearing if this model of "in-person-first" networking resonates with anyone here.

The line between cool and dangerous is oh so slim
amfooladgar•8mo ago
Totally agree. That’s something I’ve been very mindful of from day one. The current focus is on professional networking, where the intrinsic risks tend to be lower, but it’s still important to get this right.

The app’s current features are designed to address those concerns: no exact location shown, full control over visibility, ability to leave short notes after matching (instead of forced chatting), blocking/reporting mechanisms, etc.

I’m approaching this very cautiously because the goal is to make intentional in-person networking feel safer and more natural, not to expose or pressure anyone. That said, I know this is a tricky space, and I’m very open to ideas or suggestions on how to make the privacy side even stronger.

> ...discover and connect with real people, in real-time, wherever you are

Reading the initial introduction made be press back. Bells went off in my head. I must say that your focus on socializing is what made me first click; maybe try something local, group-social, and not so intimate?

amfooladgar•8mo ago
Thanks, that’s really helpful. You’re right, the wording could give the wrong impression. The focus is on professional networking, not general socializing, but I see how leaning more toward local/group contexts would feel safer and fit better. I’ll definitely think about how to reflect that more clearly... appreciate it!
