Monitor the situation to your own liking. Polymarket, Subway Surfers, Bluesky integration, Flight trackers. Runs all requests client side and doesn't store information. Open to feedback.

SpiderFoot seems a lot more usable for real OSINT work to me.
IrishTechie•3w ago
I’ve just Googled SpiderFoot and gone to the top result (spiderfoot.org). I see four banners on-screen promoting VPNs and crypto and a pop-up that reappears every few seconds telling me that a VPN is mandatory to use the site. I’m guessing this is not the right site?

Their brochure Web site snapshot (this probably isn't the best snapshot, but maybe close):

ericlmtn•3w ago
Never heard of this but seems like it's much more powerful. I built this for normies like me that just want to monitor the situation and pretend I'm doing something useful

(Where's the US involvement when there are actual people being killed by hundreds and thousands when they fight for their liberty?..)
hdgvhicv•3w ago
Libya worked out so well.
nine_k•3w ago
The intensity of protests and the general experience of the population with living in a saner society were much weaker in Libya, if memory serves.
poulpy123•3w ago
The US have been actively undermining and attacking Iran for several decades now. Since the dictator they put in power got overthrown actually. You can say it's a good thing or a bad thing, but you cannot say they do nothing
Gys•3w ago
OSINT = open source intelligence

Had to look it up and might not the only one

instagraham•3w ago
I do want to encourage more BSky use, but a lot of imp OSINT accounts are still on X. Maybe can we have XCancel integration?

Also to better communicate urgency, a scrolling RSS feed news ticker might slap.

I can see myself chaining monitors together and having this in my spare bedroom, in the eventuality that I end up in a house with a spare bedroom

ericlmtn•3w ago
I adopted BSky over X's ridiculous rate limits and price... BSky was completely free. Never seen XCancel before but that looks integratable

RSS is on my list next

instagraham•3w ago
Also, I genuinely look forward to setting up a situation monitor when I shift to a bigger place. I've seen the memes about "monitoring the situation with the lads" and always thought it would actually be quite fun.

Thanks for making this project!

Encourage Mastodon use. There’s nothing that stops Bluesky from ending up just like Twitter.
KyleBerezin•3w ago
I think the protocol is actually pretty open, and can be hooked into without them. I may be wrong though, I read into how it worked years ago.
idiotsecant•3w ago
In theory it is, but as of now you can't actually use any provider other than bluesky
idiotsecant•3w ago
All the federated structure in the world doesn't matter if you don't have users. I think we're better off encouraging bluesky to finish what they're building, mastodon won't ever get there.
poulpy123•3w ago
It's doomscrolling but OSINT
macartain•3w ago
Interesting.. Minor point: it would be good to know what each of the default panels is? not entirely clear to me?

Intrigued by spiderfoot, but seeing that the last release - from that repo anyway - was in 2022, I assume the action has moved elsewhere, given that this is a very quickly changing field - anyone know?

Both of these make me realise how out of date my copy of Bazzell's OSINT Techniques is..

mskogly•3w ago
You need to test that on mobile
