Show HN: ArcThing – An Arc-Style Browser Sidebar (Extension) for Chrome

https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/arcthing-window-tab-manag/bnfchihnnoljghnkdbpomeheeohjpnfo

Hi HN,

I built ArcThing (arcthing.com), a Chrome extension that brings an Arc-style browser sidebar and navigation to Chrome. You can try it directly here: ArcThing – Window & Tab Manager on Chrome Web Store.

Backstory: I was an early Arc convert and loved its sidebar, spaces, and the way it made web navigation feel organized and modern. But after The Browser Company announced they were winding down Arc’s feature development, I wanted to move back to Chrome for stability and to avoid relying on the shifting priorities of VC-backed startups. However, I couldn’t find any Chrome extension that let me navigate the web as elegantly as Arc did-so I decided to build one myself.

What does ArcThing do?

- Adds an Arc-style browser sidebar to Chrome.

- A vertical tab layout, with easy grouping by last used, domain, or host.

- Lets you organize tabs and windows into “Spaces” (workspaces) for different projects or contexts.

- Favorites: Pin your most-used sites for quick, omnipresent access across all spaces.

- Resources: Save regular sites, tools, and links within their relevant spaces for contextual organization.

- Smart search: Find any tab or resource instantly, within a space or globally.

Works entirely locally in your browser-no data collection, no accounts, just install and use.

Feedback wanted: If you’ve used Arc or have thoughts on browser workflows, I’d love your input:

- Which Arc features do you find most essential or unique?

- How important is sync (across devices) for your workflow?

- Would you value “intelligent” tab cleanup or management (like auto-closing or archiving unused tabs, reminders, etc.)?

Any suggestions, bug reports, or thoughts about what would make ArcThing more useful are very welcome. Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks, Carsten
