People are moving from Windows is all ... I'd guess the sudden updating I've heard cussed out a few years ago while in the middle of things really didn't do M$ any favours. For a lot of the typical users out there they are looking for hardware that has a large user base. Presently I find little point mentioning Linux since there's so many flavours which have unique problem sets that it puts the average user off - even though with a bit of gentle guidance it's nothing much - learning curves exist for most everything.
