Side project site and Adsense = coffee money only. What am I doing wrong?

1•nmfccodes•9mo ago
Hey HN!

So, I'm a college student (meaning permanently broke by default), and recently, I've put all my hopes and dreams (ahem, well...a weekend of coding and loads of coffee anyway) into a little niche website:

https://nmfclist.com

I admit, my ultimate goal was simple: I thought Adsense would rescue me from ramen noodle dinners. Sadly, the earnings barely cover my morning caffeine addiction.

Could you savvy folks please have a quick look and tell me where I'm going wrong? (Any honest feedback would be greatly appreciated—and let's face it, might even save my sanity and health by upgrading me to slightly more nutritious food.)

Thanks in advance! P.S: Feel free to roast it, my stomach already does daily!

Several things come to my mind:

1) you don't seem to rank at all in Google, so that's one major traffic source gone

2) this is a good search for an LLM to answer which undermines needing to visit your sites at all

3) I bet the companies that regularly need NMFC codes have this information locally

and

4) Firefox SSL error (probably the least important point to make)

> Secure Connection Failed

> An error occurred during a connection to nmfclist.com. The OCSP response does not include a status for the certificate being verified.

> Error code: MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_OCSP_RESPONSE_FOR_CERT_MISSING

> The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

5) Target audience may be likelier than average to have ad/track blockers enabled
