There's no doubt that recent advances in AI have changed and will continue to change how folks in the software industry work. Some are even arguing that software engineers' days are numbered. I'm curious how others are perceiving and responding to these changes.

Are you considering retraining for a role that cannot be done by AI? Are you developing your own AI tools in an effort to capitalise on the AI boom? Are you embracing the new tools, but riding out the AI wave confident that your current role will still exist in the future? Are you moving into an AI-adjacent field intent on "selling shovels in a gold rush"? What's your plan?

Due to AI? No.

Due to corporate morons chasing the hype train? Absolutely. The job market sucks. Considering new fields for the next little while, once everyone discovers that vibe coded trash is not sufficient I'll probably come back.

Or maybe I'll just decide I don't want my livelihood to depend on the sort of moron who sees an LLM and decides to replace half their company with it and stay out.

Ha, exactly. Sad, too many trend-chasers out there. It's partly due to chasing investment bucks or keep their stock price high.
