There are reasons to fear dissociatives. I went through a phase of drinking Robitussin in my youth without obvious harm but people were taking much more powerful doses of powdered DXM circa 2000 -- a friend of mine took a massive dose and was in a dazed state for about a month and when he came back he was a sex addict, like if his girlfriend was spending the weekend in jail he would cheat on her.
