OpenAI's update to ChatGPT's Advanced Voice is terrible

4•bag_boy•4h ago
I pulled up ChatGPT's Advanced Voice yesterday and was surprised and disappointed by the updates.

The old Advanced Voices were slightly robotic but in a magical way. It was impossible for a human to be so positive and consistent, but that's what made the experience wonderful!

It doesn't need to sound human.

The new voice now uses "ums" and "ahs" in conversations. I asked it a simple question, and in a one sentence reply, it managed to say "um" for no reason. It sounded like it had just smoked a bowl.

I can't wrap my head around why they did this. This seems like an amateur mistake.

I tried prompting it in several different ways - it just can't sound upbeat.

No matter what, it's also going to find a way to get in a few "ums" and "uhs."
