Like millions of kids, Tintin opened my eyes to the world and made me want to explore different cultures. No doubt, it moved the needle for understanding between people. Being Chinese, Blue Lotus was my favorite because it gave visual life to scenes my grandparents described.
Then recently on Reddit, someone chimes in on a large sub saying how Hergé was racist. “Check out Tintin in the Congo.”
Look at Hergé’s timeline. Look at when he met Chang and all the works that came after. Look at all the scholarly analysis on Hergé. Now some idiot in Reddit takes a shot and a bunch of others are going to repeat the same nonsense. This is democracy without context.
The worst part of social media is that it gives any idiot a voice.
I have reread them countless of times since i was a kid and can recommend them to anyone.
