FollowUp: My move to Netherlands is currently blocked

2•tech_lizzard•7h ago
This is a follow up to the previous thread here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43108657#43109276 Thank you all for your good ideas and helpful hints.

I now have a B.V. business in the Netherlands right now, and I can probably get an apartment in a fly-over village or town using https://www.123wonen.nl/ service for finding apartments , The main problem I'm finding is the job situation; My current job implemented a new policy discouraging working overseas, even though the position is 100% remote. The majority of jobs (contract and full time) in current market for US want a US worker in the US.

I found one job that said they were fine with a move to NL, but then they flaked out before the first interview.

I am currently looking for a senior software developer job, with US pay (180k full time, more if contract) , probably 6 month to a year contract, that can support a move to the Netherlands.

I also have a house I'm planning to rent out, but that definitely anchors me down a bit. My wage request would be lower if I didn't have the house. The US housing market is bad, and I'd lose money if I sold it atm.

Maybe take the loss and find EU based employment? Thats how our plan for moving has developed, the loss is theoretical based on the idea that values might recover at some later date, but the value of the move in terms of stability and progress is also theory, so its a matter of comparing probabilities and acting accordingly. At least in our case, the likelihood of future appreciation of assets is significantly lower and getting worse versus increasing value for efforts in safer markets. FWIW

I could. I actually like my current job and pay, so cutting losses (house, job, etc) and getting freelance employment with BV can be my backup plan.
