Hi HN, we're Clein, Kelly, and Ronald, back with a big update to Sphere!
Our previous Show HN for v0.1 introduced Sphere as a local sandboxed command runner. Thanks to some amazing feedback (including insights on MicroVMs right here on HN!), we've been hard at work.
v0.2.0 launches the SphereHub MVP. Now, sphere run can automatically fetch, verify (SHA256), and cache dependencies from a public, GitHub-based registry. The sphere publish command guides you to contribute your own .sphere tools via a PR.
We believe this is a big step towards an ecosystem of simple, secure, and truly portable software components. The Gist linked has all the details and a quick example.
This is still very early, but we're excited about the potential. We're here to answer any questions and would love your thoughts on this networked approach!
