I stumbled across this forest on Maps [0] and ended up hiking 6 miles through it today. Some of the trees are easily over 1,000 years old. It felt like walking through a scene from a Hobbit movie, absolutely magical. The idea of it disappearing is heartbreaking.

This is unrelated but can you please look at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44371049 and https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44371052?

The thread in question is already 6 days old but you (both) broke the site rules so badly that this is not one to let pass.

We end up having to ban accounts that break the site guidelines like that, so please don't do it again.

dang, you have my email, any reason to write this here?

anyway, i apologize, i agree i had too much fun with MegaButts and I let the thread get out of control. i won't do it again.

dang•7mo ago
Ok, thanks.

> any reason to write this here?

It's better to do the moderation on the site itself, for a bunch of reasons. The main one is that it communicates to the community that moderation exists, and what the standards are.

Even then, it's hard to get the message across*—you'd be surprised how many regular HN readers don't realize the site is moderated at all!

Utah for scale is about 54.3 million acres.

this must be one of the worst things this administration is trying to do. old growth forest is almost impossible to get back once it is gone especially outside the tropics. and all this to pay for tax cuts .. absolutely criminal.
King-Aaron•7mo ago
It has been interesting seeing the commentary from right-wing voters who base a lot of their personality on hunting etc respond to this. It feels like a lot of people have been caught off guard after the fact, even though the party did indicate their intentions before the election.
NicoJuicy•7mo ago
Yeah, just pay attention to the companies who will benefit from this. All buddy's of Trump ofc.
