The thread in question is already 6 days old but you (both) broke the site rules so badly that this is not one to let pass.
We end up having to ban accounts that break the site guidelines like that, so please don't do it again.

It's better to do the moderation on the site itself, for a bunch of reasons. The main one is that it communicates to the community that moderation exists, and what the standards are.
Even then, it's hard to get the message across*—you'd be surprised how many regular HN readers don't realize the site is moderated at all!
