Where do AI teams get affordable, high-quality labeled data?

3•fungungun•7mo ago
I'm part of a team working on a data labeling platform (venso.xyz), and we’re exploring how small AI teams and researchers find data annotation support.

Tools like Scale AI are great but often priced out of reach for small labs or startups.

Curious to hear what tools/strategies others use, or if people would consider alternatives with trained in-house teams and lower cost.

Thanks in advance!

Tools like Scale AI are great but often priced out of reach for small labs or startups.

That those prices reflect the level of resources necessary to build a viable business is a very reasonable working hypothesis for any company entering the space.

In other words, trying to compete on cost is a way to attract customers who expect to pay $0 and don't care if your company stays in business. Requiring payment is the simplest way to test if a business idea is viable. It is also the most brutal psychologically because asking for money usually ends in rejection.

Solving the problem of labeled data is a problem people will pay for. Solving the problem of people not having money is a problem you, and only you, pay for. Unless you are running a payday loan service, a pawn shop, or a bank...but that's another matter. Good luck.
