Can AI Stop AI? Inside Bengio's Mission to Make It Safer

I’ve been trying to make sense of all the recent safety discussions. After reading Bengio’s interview on Vox, I felt both uneasy and strangely hopeful, so I tried to put those thoughts into a blog post.

It’s not technical, just one curious person reflecting on what “guardrails” like Scientist AI might mean.

Sharing here in case anyone else has been thinking about the same.

TL;DR: After co-inventing the tech behind today’s AI, Yoshua Bengio is now sounding the alarm. Through his nonprofit LawZero, he’s working on “Scientist AI”. A system designed not to act, but to stop other AIs from acting dangerously. It’s cautious by design, boring on purpose, and maybe exactly what we need. This post explores why it matters, what it means for the rest of us, and why building guardrails is just as important as building breakthroughs.
