While there's yet to be a reliable account on what actually happened to Mads Mikkelsen, if we were to take his claims at face value, I don't think it's a circumstance worth of being made light of even in theory.

The looming danger of his alleged experience may not resonate with Americans just yet. This is just an event that won't be meaningful unless placed alongside the context of others past and laundered through a media short cycle, and events soon to come. But that'll be a historian's job I suppose.

What performances like this signal, from where I'm sitting, is that an event can be trivialized before it has time to fully materialize into something intelligible.
