Show HN: QuizIt – Instantly builds live multiplayer quizzes from any idea

https://quizit.ai
1•yoeldk•3h ago
Hi HN,

QuizIt started as a side project months ago when we realised writing quiz questions often took much longer than running the quiz itself. We wanted to keep the live quiz energy while skipping the manual question writing.

What it does

* Type an idea or prompt, or add a YouTube link, website URL, PDF, DOC or Image → a full multiple-choice quiz appears in under a minute.

* Supports multiple source types - prompts, automatic web search, YouTube videos, PDFs, DOCs, and web pages.

* Working only from a prompt? QuizIt can automatically scan the web for fresh context before generating questions.

Three modes

* Live - share a code, anyone joins in the browser, no login, and the host can choose to play or just host.

* Challenge - one-shot solo quiz with a public leaderboard (player logs in so the score sticks).

* Solo practice - private practice for the quiz creator.

- Perfect for self-learning - students can spin up quizzes themselves, get instant feedback, and track progress.

- Great for friends & family fun - fire up a live game in seconds and compete for bragging rights.

- Each answer is auto-graded and includes a concise explanation that adds extra context - not just whether it’s correct.

Tech bits Front end: React + Vite Back end: Firebase (DB + Functions) AI models: OpenAI + Gemini

How it’s different

Other tools still make you write every question. QuizIt pulls questions and distractors straight from the source, adds concise explanations, and is playable right away. It also works with a wider range of inputs- plain prompts with optional web context, YouTube videos, PDFs, DOCs, and web pages-so you can build a quiz from almost anything.

Looking for feedback

* Which features feel missing or rough around the edges?

* How smooth is the flow from idea/prompt to a playable quiz?

* Any friction when friends or students join a live game?

* Any other feedback or suggestions to improve QuizIt?

I have a pool of complimentary educator licenses while we smooth rough edges. Happy to answer anything.

Yoel
