Show HN: Trying to eat better? I built a nutrional assistant

https://chat.eko-bazaar.com/
13•dammsaturn•4h ago
I spent 3 years building an e-commerce side project to order groceries online, which later pivoted in the last 6 months to a complete Ai nutrional assitant, that can personalize meal plans, recipes, meal suggestions, and even scrape the internet for where to purchase grocery items in your chat.

Seems like a cool idea at a very high level, but I feel like the homepage needs a lot more context than what it has. How it works, what it does, best way to use it, etc.

Also, just a heads up that the chat window is a bit broken on mobile. It has some weird scroll hijacking that breaks chats.

add-sub-mul-div•4h ago
Is it a cool idea, though, to turn over your health to a system that's both nondeterministic and opaque?
freilanzer•4h ago
I don't see a problem with a recipe generator?
bluetidepro•4h ago
Depends how it’s actually used. Again, without more context on the home page it’s hard tell. There is a chance you can use it in a way where you can feed it vague non identifying info and still get use from it.
dammsaturn•2h ago
Very True, you're not required to provide your personal info to use the software
dammsaturn•3h ago
Heyy, thanks alot you can visit https://www.eko-bazaar.com/about to know more or get some inspos on how to use it, and thanks for highlighting the chat window, and scroll bug, would work on fixing that.

sometimes_all•4h ago
I keep seeing "Failed to generate content. Please try again.".

It's a bit difficult for me to know what sort of questions I can ask this assistant. Maybe a few examples might help?

lnsru•4h ago
Exactly my experience.

On other hand eating better does not need many assistants. The less processed food is simply better. No sugar, adequate portion size, enough water.

dammsaturn•3h ago
I apologize for that, since it was a side project, alot of resources were basically on Free tier and it got overloaded by the number of request which i did not honestly expect.
ramon156•4h ago
Pretty sure its just Hug of Death
dammsaturn•3h ago
It works now, you can try again.
dammsaturn•3h ago
You can have it create a meal plan for you, list out food recipes for a particular dish, and basically just test your imagination with, you can also ask it how to make a particular dish and suggest where to purchase ingredients for it, it's still in a beta phase so your feedback would be used to make improvements.
gritlin•4h ago
Not sure how to use this. May be a video might be helpful. Thanks!
dammsaturn•3h ago
working on putting out a demo video, would be out soon.
crab_galaxy•4h ago
I’m interested based on the title but I have no idea how to use it. I think a placeholder prompt or basic instruction would go a long way, otherwise it just looks like a chatGPT clone
nkozyra•4h ago
A chat interface seems like the wrong approach for something like this. This feels like an guided agent interface, the way we interact with nutrionists or personal trainers.

If you need help with these things, a blank page is a bad way to start.

spacemadness•3h ago
It could also help to spell nutrition correctly.
dammsaturn•2h ago
That would be limiting the products potential
dammsaturn•2h ago
https://www.eko-bazaar.com/about this page gives some insight on how you could use it
freilanzer•4h ago
> "BAZ-1, your nutrutional AI assistant"

Nutritional. I created a recipe but I cannot scroll up (in Firefox) since it immediately skips back to the bottom, so I can't read all of it.

Interesting idea though! I'll try it.

Edit: the shopping part takes a while, then it works.

rkomorn•4h ago
That's part of the caloric intake reduction strategy... Can't eat the ingredients you can't read in the recipe.
dammsaturn•3h ago
haha
dammsaturn•3h ago
I really appreciate this feedback and would work on fixing this
coffeecoders•4h ago
Lately I have been using ChatGPT for my meal planning. There are countless [1] threads on reddit on how to tailor this to your preference.

I went through a cut phase with it and it worked out great. I prefer it better than the popular one eatthismuch[2].

dammsaturn•2h ago
Thanks for this
Tepix•4h ago
Very 1st impression: There are currently typos both on the starting page: "nutrutional" and in the title and the body of the post "nutrional".

2nd impression: I entered a request and got an error message. I guess your server is overloaded.

dammsaturn•2h ago
Thanks for spotting the typo, server got overloaded but its back up now, you can try again

antisthenes•3h ago
The problem with nutrition isn't the lack of a middleman feeding you (pun intended) information about what you should be eating.

It's finding the willpower to keep it consistent and not cheat.

dammsaturn•3h ago
Hmm, thank you for this feedback, definitely going to work on a feature to fix this.
