Is there any way for me, a citizen and a taxpayer, to be sure that this sort of Trump be behavior isn't just a way for him to bump up the value of bribes he receives from some industry? Because that's what it looks like.

What would you do if there were?
Would it matter to you that Trump is enriching himself in office, if he's getting some kind of benefits for you?
Conversely, if this isn't producing any benefits for you, do his reasons really matter? If it's bad policy, then it's bad policy.
