Perhaps allowing new data center operators the use on-site prime generation isn't such a bad alternative.
Running SCGT and diesel units is obviously not ideal, but it buys time for grid operators to do things the right way. Rushing interconnection projects seems incredibly risky to me. The downstream carbon impact of a totally fucked grid seems much more severe than whatever would come out of a fleet of modern caterpillar units running for a year or two.
