Show HN: Wordrops – A competitive writing platform inspired by League of Legends

https://wordrops.com/
4•samsquared•6mo ago
I built a real-time, competitive writing platform where players collaborate on stories by writing in turns. Each chapter is scored by an AI system (based on coherence, style, and originality), and players climb rankings like in a MOBA game.

Modes include Classic (just writing) and Ranked (writing + scoring), with turn timers of 1 or 12 hours.

The idea came from trying to merge my love for writing and online games. I’ve been working solo for 8 months to bring it to life.

It’s free-to-play and fully online. Built with Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, WebSockets (Socket.io), and OpenAI APIs.

I built a real-time, competitive writing platform where players collaborate on stories by writing in turns. Each chapter is scored by an AI system based on coherence, style, rhythm, and originality — and players climb rankings like in a MOBA game.

There are two main modes: - *Classic* – Just writing, no scores. - *Ranked* – Writing + scoring and leaderboard progression.

Turn timers are either 1 hour or 12 hours per chapter.

The idea came from trying to combine my love for creative writing and competitive online games. I’ve been working solo for the last 8 months to bring it to life.

Tech stack: - Node.js + Express - PostgreSQL - WebSockets (Socket.io) - OpenAI APIs for AI-based scoring

It’s not just a game: stories get published, shared, and commented. You can follow writers, track stats, receive real-time notifications, and explore the full story library.

It’s free to play and currently in closed beta — sign-up is required to access the platform.
