Intels inability to pivot to gpu that increasingly handle most of the serious computational workload along with AMD success in building competitive CPUs in both the server and consumer segments made this outcome inevitable.

I know what you will say, hindsight is 20 / 20. But this was really easy to spot, the future is in massively parallel workloads, that's where the money is it has been clear for at least a decade that CPUs are becoming increasingly irrelevant in computation.

The shift that happened in the last few years is that it became clear that massive computational workloads are actually a huge market instead of the niche that they used to be.
