Ask HN: Discussion forums like HN for Sales and Marketing?

1•yumlogic•6h ago
There is a good degree of technology discussion but much of it gravitate towards policies, politics, and things that probably does not matter to me. Recently, there is almost no discussion on building startup and challenges faced by startups.

However, I do see value in having forums like HN.

What are forums like HN but built for - Sales - Marketing - GTM - Startup challenges and discussions

Are there any other sites that resemble structure like HN and you find them valuable?

‎Late last year, I built a Hacker news clone for a client that was meant to be for sales, marketing and entrepreneurship discussion. ‎

‎Had everything HN has, but it failed because of lack of adoption. Network effect. Didn't help that it was behind a paywall too. Client stopped supporting it early this year.

‎ ‎I don't think there are sites like HN in terms of usage. Forums where it feels you're not talking to an empty room. The only thing comparable are the subreddits of whatever you're interested in.

I also could not find any. I wonder if it has something to do with personas.

Engineers and tech people tend to be terminally online and often spend a large amount of time in front the screen, whereas markerters and sales use tech for enablement only and rather spend in person. I could be wrong but this is my observation.

chistev•3h ago
The marketers use tech to converse too to learn ways to better their craft. You see them on the subreddits as I mentioned in my original comment.
