Had everything HN has, but it failed because of lack of adoption. Network effect. Didn't help that it was behind a paywall too. Client stopped supporting it early this year.
I don't think there are sites like HN in terms of usage. Forums where it feels you're not talking to an empty room. The only thing comparable are the subreddits of whatever you're interested in.

Engineers and tech people tend to be terminally online and often spend a large amount of time in front the screen, whereas markerters and sales use tech for enablement only and rather spend in person. I could be wrong but this is my observation.
