Show HN: MedAsk – Healthcare companion for symptom guidance and doc visit prep

https://app.medask.tech/
1•klemenvod•6h ago
You wake up with a weird headache. You feel unusually tired. You notice a strange rash in a private area... Relatable? In that moment, you just want reliable answers. If you're lucky, you have a doctor in the family or live somewhere with a functioning healthcare system, but most likely you're just googling your symptoms (and getting terrified you have cancer).

We're a team of four with medical and engineering backgrounds, and we built MedAsk to help in that moment of uncertainty. Here's what it does:

- Symptom Guidance: Different from general LLMs, which overconfidently give you diagnoses with minimal information, it guides you through your symptoms using a structured approach.

- Intelligent Triage: Based on the conversation, it suggests potential next steps, from self-care to seeing a GP or seeking urgent care. Its triage accuracy is 12% better than o3*.

- Appointment Prep: MedAsk generates a clear, structured summary of your symptoms, timeline, and concerns. You can bring this to your appointment for a more focused, productive conversation. In a small pilot, 80% of users reported it improved the quality of their visit.

We're using a combination of LLMs fine-tuned on synthetic medical data plus RAG for clinical grounding. The goal is to make high-quality healthcare guidance accessible and help both patients and doctors get more out of their time together.

The assessment takes ~3 minutes. No login or personal info required. Would be grateful for the HN community's feedback. Try it here: https://app.medask.tech/

Disclaimer: MedAsk is a tool for preparation and guidance. It is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace professional medical advice.

*A lot of our effort goes into creating benchmarks to objectively evaluate our model’s performance, and we’ve open-sourced them here: https://github.com/medaks/medask-benchmarks

We’ve developed both an OSCE-style diagnostic benchmark and a medical triage classification task. The 12% improvement over o3 comes from our triage benchmark, which evaluates models on clinical vignettes across emergency, non-emergency, and self-care classifications.

It's pretty nice, from what I see!

Maybe you'll want to change the outcome wording to work without advancing "You have XXX" for the obvious reason, but also because you provide several diagnostics, not the union of them.
