I support nuclear disarmament, yet I think there's a strong possibility that a nuclear-armed humanity can continue to exist without using them. If a nation does use nukes, my guess is that this would be followed by quick condemnation and calls for disarmament and other controls.
On a related note, let's say that Russia (in one way or another) losses its war with Ukraine, and subsequently breaks up into smaller nations. I posed this possibility to some Ukrainians, who immediately asked "Who gets the nukes?" Given Ukraine's experience with a very similar scenario, I'm not as sure as I might otherwise be that the right thing is to push for total nuclear disarmament by the nations resulting from a broken-up Russia.
