Show HN: Competitor Finder – Paste your domain, get your top competitors

https://champsignal.com/tools/competitor-finder
5•maximedupre•6mo ago
I built a simple tool to help founders figure out who their actual competitors are! You know... the ones your potential customers already know and compare you to.

Just paste your domain, and we generate a focused list of 10 competitors with names, sites, and a quick positioning note for each.

Why I built it: I run a competitor monitoring tool (https://champsignal.com), and I realized that before people can monitor competitors… they first need to find them. This is harder than you think for people that have not been around for years aha

(It's free and doesn't require signup)

Would love feedback, especially if you don't think it's giving you the right competitors. Happy to improve the product.

Is it restricted to analyzing the words of the domain name? Because it's inaccurate.
maximedupre•6mo ago
It visits the website that you pass it, analyze the business, and then tries to find competitors. Sometimes it misses the mark though!

Can you tell me which URL you used, I'd love to debug it to make it better :)

Disposal8433•6mo ago
I gave it 2 web sites that don't exist anymore, and are unreachable. You may want to check you vibe-code again.
maximedupre•6mo ago
lmao
Disposal8433•6mo ago
How is it funny? You submitted that broken web site and reply with "lmao"? That's unprofessional at best.
maximedupre•6mo ago
How is it broken? You submitted two websites that don't exist anymore and you expect good results?

It is LLM based so it responded with the information it had lol

wredcoll•6mo ago
Trust is important. This decreases it.
maximedupre•6mo ago
Love is the answer.
Disposal8433•6mo ago
> How is it broken

It's factually broken. I expect something like "I don't know," not some random BS from a LLM.

maximedupre•6mo ago
Are you saying LLMs are broken? This is nothing more than a wrapper. Not sure why it triggers you so much lol
LE_BAGEL_DOGUE•6mo ago
This tool assumes you have a competent marketing team that actually makes a website with good copy that makes it clear what your product or service is :)

Not the case for my company. Competitors were mostly right but it ranked a bunch way lower than they should be and ranked some non-competitors higher up

maximedupre•6mo ago
Yes it assumes exactly that aha. It's also a free tool, so there is a tradeoff between which model I chose and much context I gave it :)
abhishekpandey•6mo ago
While the idea has merit (especially if it can research and list my competitors quickly), it doesn't seem to work. I submitted something (airoaster.app) and it gave me all links related to Coffee Roasting... I mean come on! It should at least try to parse the information present on the website "somewhat" properly, no ??
maximedupre•6mo ago
Yeah it could definitely be improved. For one I could use a better model than gpt-4.1, perhaps a reasoning model, but I didn't want to pay more for a free tool.
AnnaMere•6mo ago
Pretty cool, ain't ChatGPT can do this too?
maximedupre•6mo ago
ChatGPT pretty solid ngl haha
