Beyond the bribery aspect this article notes, this is in direct opposition to overturning the "fairness doctrine" that existed in TV and radio broadcasting before Reagan. The fairness doctrine was said to be in direct opposition to freedom of the press, and hence had to be gotten rid of. Now, an actual political commissar has to exist to ensure lack of bias. I honestly do not see how to square the two actions. Either stopping enforcing the fairness doctrine was wrong, or a commissar is wrong.

I'll also note that "bias monitor" is a phrase that will at least colloquially, lose its literal meaning, to mean almost exactly the opposite. You may not like that evolution, but it will happen, a lot like "freedom of speech absolutist" has come to mean something quite different than its literal, previous, meaning. It would seem that President Trump and his base are (a) doing duckspeak themselves and (b) creating Newspeak without a guiding bureaucracy.
