It's especially weird since it comes from the people who used to be all in favor of free trade and lower barriers.
The US has always been xenophobic, but in the last decade we put it into overdrive.

The tariffs are one thing, what is much much worse is that the US has shown it is not a reliable partner. You can't make international deals of it's only valid for 4 years.
Without a constitutional change this will stick as one person has way to much power.
Switzerland negotiated a deal with the US but the president decided no.
