As an arch user, with no XFCE no GNOME, no KDE, just i3 and X11 mostly using the terminal, the software I use has decades of years

Indeed. Clearly it would be better to switch to an OS that has never had any changes, especially any breaking ones, or ones that made life worse. Thank FSM Windows fits that bill...

I'm always surprised by this complaint. Xterm mutt fvwm etc all work the same today as they did 25 years ago. Meanwhile the Windows UI is radically different now than it was on Windows 98.
