For fun reference:

Ford F150

width = 240cm

price = starts at 8,000,000円

__

Kei Truck

width = 148cm (maximum by law)

price = top model 1,600,000円

I could hardly believe it, but I've witnessed multiple men trying to navigate the mean streets over there in Hummer H2s. They were all driven by the Japanese equivalent of "Deano" if that makes any sense: young, hair immaculately coiffed and dyed orange, brash and oblivious. We like to view Japan through the lens of tidy urban utopianism, but this guy seems to exist in every culture.
mc3301•6mo ago
The difference is this:

At a mega-crowded beach during peak season where people come to party and hooligans like to show off, let's say Izu's Shirahama for example, there'll be maybe a dozen of such big stupid trucks in total. And that's throughout the 10 or more huge (and full) parking lots.

moongift2•5mo ago
Unfortunately, the F-150 Pickup Trucks are not suitable for Japanese roads and parking lots. It's not a matter of the quality of the vehicle, but rather that it is not suited to the circumstances in Japan.
