That recent picture of a starved baby next to its mother turned out to be staged.. is there actual evidence of starvation?
LargoLasskhyfv•6mo ago
“So long as Hamas does not release the hostages, the only thing that should enter Gaza is hundreds of tons of air force explosives — not an ounce of humanitarian aid.”

This didn't explain clearly why it stands apart at all.

I would say it's because they aren't using it to achieve military victory but as genocidal punishment.

You'd think the Jews of all people would have a little sensitivity around imprisoning an entire population and starving them to death...

It’s also one of the most bipartisan political things ever, in a weird way.

A) Both Biden and Trump provided rhetorical cover, but never tried to stop it in anyway.

and

B) People on both sides of the political spectrum see it for what it is and are against it.

So if we had to get Sherlock Holmes with it, I think you’ll see that both A and B have one thing in common, and that is neither A or B has any avenue to stop the Israeli government.

B doesn’t have the power because the representatives are beholden to something. A won’t stop it because, I guess they are beholden to the same thing?

So, the powerful have no way of stopping it. Which bring us to C, the people in Gaza. They had no fucking chance of stopping it if A and B couldn’t.

IshKebab•6mo ago
I'm not sure that's true. I think the US does have the power to stop it, but lets be real - Israel is quite a Western country and doesn't have a religious imperative to murder everyone in the West. We naturally want them to win, and even if its never said explicitly, winning ultimately means a Machiavellian win.

The trouble is they cross a line from collateral damage in the course of counter-terrorism (which is fairly easily justifiable), to deliberately starving an entire population (which is reprehensible even to people that support Israel).

It's a fairly recent development and I wouldn't be surprised if the US actually does something significant now. Trump loves to think of himself as a peacemaker. (On the other hand his peacemaking basically consists of empty threats.)

ivape•6mo ago
Yeah, no. I don’t even know what the fuck I just read.

winning ultimately means a Machiavellian win.

God-denying people have fully come out of the closet. Alright, place your bets. It’s a big circus and party, and then we all escape freely into nothingness at the end.

Otherwise, enjoy Hell.

IshKebab•6mo ago
Not sure what I just read either. Maybe I can put it in simpler terms for you: it's really really really bad in the short term for Israel to destroy Palestine, but it might be better in the very long term. How many ancient victories saved us from modern day conflicts? I bet its not an insignificant number.

You're probably now imagining that I'm somehow condoning Israel's actions and I think starving a population is ok or something.

> then we all escape freely into nothingness at the end.

Yep! Not my preference but I'd still rather accept the bleak truth rather than believe in magic.

ivape•6mo ago
What are you saying then? Of course everyone wants long term security, but at this cost? You can only pay this price if you don’t even believe it’s a fucking price.

It’s also incredibly distasteful to talk like that after this much loss of life.

Keep typing dude, because I don’t think your fingers and conscious are in sync.

IshKebab•6mo ago
I don't think it's distasteful to talk about reality. Ignore it if you like.

And no I don't think I think this is an acceptable price. Remember how I said you would think I condone this?

FWIW, the majority of Israelis are not descendants of Holocaust survivors.

They are mostly progrom survivors who fled the arab-sunni-shia genocides of minorities allover the middle east following the foundation of israel.
