How do you make sense of complex multi-tab spreadsheets?

3•rahul_k_dev•3h ago
I often work with spreadsheets that have dozens of tabs and tangled cross references like financial models, operations dashboards, inherited files from past teams. Figuring out what depends on what can take hours.

Built in trace tools in Excel or Google Sheets only show one cell at a time. That makes it almost impossible to get a big picture view of how data flows across tabs or dimensions.

Here is what I have tried so far: - Native trace tools: single cell only - Niche formula auditors: no true cross tab map - Enterprise add ins: expensive and locked to one platform - Project management visualizers: not designed for spreadsheet formulas

I still have not found a way to get a clear map of dependencies across tabs.

Curious to hear from others: - Do you run into this with your spreadsheets? - How do you handle it today? - Why do you think no widely used tool exists for this?

For context I put up a small landing page to gather interest: https://deogaze.com/spreadsheet
