I applaud everyone who just tries a different device than Apple.

Of course, it will require some adjustments, and Apple will not support you by any means to have that non-Apple device play nice with their ecosystem, but on a broader scale it will be for the better.

Especially the mobile device market in North America is in a quite unhealthy condition, with iOS making up >54% of the mobile device market (and over 90% of the value) it's almost impossible for a competitor to rise to the level of Apple.

We should be able to choose between at least 2-3 equally-healthy brands, and yet we can't, thanks to one company curating that perfect walled-garden...

Google has a walled garden as well. Talking to my less techy friends, they won't even consider the thought of moving just because their purchases won't carry over.

Even if said app exists on both platforms, you'd have to buy it again.

> Google has a walled garden as well.

For the Smartphone OS, maybe yes. But not for the Hardware, Services and the rest of its *entire* ecosystem.

Google is not the savior for that industry, it's just the only real alternative (until some regulation hopefully enables a competitor to rise)

> Talking to my less techy friends, they won't even consider the thought of moving just because their purchases won't carry over.

Yes, hence the applause for everyone who just TRIES.
