Strange that a tech piece about a company would get so much flak. Would the people flagging this please write a piece explaining why collective punishment is fair and/or has ever made any situation better in the short/medium/long term?

I appreciate the sentiment. I am trying not to get this post banned because it is actually a great way to help founders grow their companies!

Directly answering your question that's not necessarily related to the above article. This is how I think people flagging this article view it:
Specifically sourcing talent from an active war zone from an area controlled by terrorists seems like a terrible idea because:
* You might end up supporting terrorism or indirectly support the government that has taken innocent hostages
* Can someone in an active war zone really provide reliable service
* You might run a foul of your government, since where you live might be actively supporting the other side and it might end up being treasonous.
I'm not sure that choosing sides during a war with impractical business decisions is somehow advocating for collective punishment.

Again, I don't want to make this political because that isn't what this forum is about, but I do take issue with some of the foundations of your argument.
