PauseR – Open-Source Plugin: Pause Minority Mode for RabbitMQ with Khepri

SeventhState•4mo ago
Seventh State, the independent RabbitMQ consultancy and support provider, today announced the release of its new PauseR Plugin – a fully open source solution available for public use. The plugin restores the familiar “pause minority” behaviour in RabbitMQ clusters, offering operators greater control and predictability during network partitions. RabbitMQ is transitioning from its long-standing Mnesia storage engine to Khepri, a Raft-based system designed for stronger data safety. While this shift prevents “split-brain” scenarios, it also introduced new behaviours that some operators find less predictable. The PauseR Plugin, created by Seventh State, brings back the option to stop minority nodes serving requests – ensuring applications fail over cleanly and avoiding “false availability” during partitions. “We built this plugin because the community asked for it,” said Lajos Gerecs, RabbitMQ Consultant at Seventh State. “Open source software thrives when users have choice and transparency. With PauseR, we’re giving operators more flexibility and continuing our commitment to keeping RabbitMQ innovation open and accessible.” Supporting the RabbitMQ Community Seventh State positions itself as the alternative support provider for the RabbitMQ community, offering expert support, consultancy, and plugin development while continuing to back open source and legacy use cases. Where others are shifting focus away from community features, Seventh State is investing in openness and legacy support. The PauseR Plugin is freely available on Seventh State’s GitHub and works with RabbitMQ 4.1+ using Khepri storage. Alongside open source contributions, Seventh State also provides an exclusive suite of enterprise-grade RabbitMQ plugins to its support customers, including: DRS (Disaster Recovery & Data Salvage): rapid recovery from outages, even with a single surviving node. PrioriQ: priority messaging support for quorum queues. Q-Spy: non-invasive message inspection. SafeConX: improved partition handling and connection stability.

“Our mission is simple: empower the RabbitMQ community to run systems that are more resilient, efficient, and tailored to their needs,” said Gerecs. “PauseR is just one example of us giving back – and we’ll continue to champion openness while delivering enterprise-ready solutions for those who need them.” Availability The PauseR Plugin is available today as a free, open source download at LINK For enterprises seeking advanced features and 24/7 expert support, Seventh State offers a range of support packages and exclusive enterprise plugins.
