Elaborating on it, more than just asking yourself questions. Trying to fit what you are trying to learn in the big picture of reality, system, topic, etc that you already have, and what it implies. But only copying/hearing it in the same terms may work more as memorization than learning, what can be good in some domains but bad for others.
