No mention of how common this is. Anyone know?
elmerfud•4mo ago
This isn't something that used to need to be said. The really sad fact is that they even had to remind people that you shouldn't victim blame.
cosmicgadget•4mo ago
Did it? Is Medal of Freedom recipient Rush Limbaugh too beneath mainstream? How about Fox News pundits after Paul Pelosi was attacked?

I don't think this is new.

Sounds like it's the American equivalent of the British knighting people.

Fairly common from what I hear, its gone completely Orwellian or Maoist, depending on your perspective.

Bad people pretending to be good doing bad things to torture people based on the bad people's false accusations and coercive evil behavior. I can't imagine a world where any rational person believes that depriving people of their professions/jobs through false accusation and targeted Zersetzung-style gangstalking (i.e. criminal harassment) is a good thing.

Cancel culture has always been based in identity politics, which are the anti-thesis of American principles, anyone with half a brain knows where that came from historically.

The moment you can't communicate for fear of reprisals as a result of someone else twisting your words out of context is the moment society begins its slow march to complete collapse and eventual annihilation/extinction. Its a small but objective indicator.

By the time the slow-witted realize this, its often too late to pull back from the maelstrom, and the loudspeaker/algorithm/technology gives them privileged position to drive the boat straight into the center, and keep doing this drowning out the sane voices that want to survive and have a future.

When there is no ability to communicate, there can be no basis for non-violent conflict resolution, no shared context, and its been known for quite awhile that isolation drives people insane. A spiraled loop of madness.

People are often quite blind when it comes to how communication specifically impacts their psychological state, and thus are powerless to alter or control their heading. The science inflicted on them to induce towards automata is beyond their ken or ability to react.

Sad state of affairs overall.

After a high profile political assassination in the Netherlands (and this time it was a confirmed radical leftist) all mainstream politicians immediately banded together to keep democracy and the rule of law intact. Instinctively the media and politics knew that the nation was on a knife's edge. It was rally around the flag time.

When I compare that to how Trump and Fox behaves it doesn't bode well.
