Who didn't see it coming.

Next, it will not work unless you enter your ID-credit card-all pass.

yetihehe•4mo ago
And if it detects less than standard cleanliness of toilet after usage, your social credit will be lowered...
LargoLasskhyfv•4mo ago
I'm having no problems with that. There should be consquences for swines. They need to be disciplined in some ways, otherwise their behaviour stays as it is, which is amiss.
bell-cot•4mo ago
> Next, it will...

Pay toilets have been around for 20+ centuries - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay_toilet

The actual next thing will be collecting medical information, and using that for targeted advertising. "Trouble urinating? Talk to your doctor about Flomax(tm) for ..."

You mean Multipass? https://youtu.be/EuX1dXokscI
cinntaile•4mo ago
Paying for public toilets isn't unusual. You can pay or watch an ad.
EbNar•4mo ago
I get furious when payment is needed to pee at a train station... It's not the pennies it costs, I just find it unethical, at least where train stations are owned by the State.
GJim•4mo ago
Just jump over the barrier like everybody else.

In the event of being challenged by a security chap, it is traditional to offer to piss on the station concourse instead.

fyrn_•4mo ago
They are basically totally extinct in the US, so from a US perspective they are very unusual.

In the US they fell out of favor during the 1970s because it was argued that they discriminate against women, as men could use urinals for free.

sim7c00•4mo ago
ahh funny fact. thanks. in NL here they had recent debates on this actually. now its i think mandatory for public events to include also proper toilets for women, rather than just the stand n piss buckets they got peppered around.
cinntaile•4mo ago
What's the state of public toilets in the US? Are they usable and clean? Because that's why you pay for them over here, to make sure someone keeps them clean.
JohnFen•4mo ago
They mostly don't exist.
cinntaile•4mo ago
That is one way to solve the issue I guess...
fyrn_•4mo ago
I wouldn't trust a blanket statement like that on a ciuntry the size of the US. They are common on the west coast at least.
JohnFen•4mo ago
Not in my part of the urbanized west coast. I'm not aware of any at all. They used to be fairly common, but were removed a long time ago.
DengistKhan•4mo ago
They're pretty good where I live. Inner city toilets are often locked. Some stores will always have one clogged toilet (which probably reflects more on that specific establishment). But most of the time they're in good enough shape.
vunderba•4mo ago
Normally I'd suggest just printing advertisements directly on the toilet paper itself - but I'm not sure there'd be too many companies clamoring to have their products connected to something you wipe your arse with.

Then again, Taco Bell famously associated their food with a chihuahua - "our food is so good - even a dog will eat it!" so what do I know.

fruitworks•4mo ago
If I ever encounter this in the wild I will take up freestyle pissing
thisislife2•4mo ago
Welcome to the group - due to the lack of public toilets (especially clean ones), we Indians have always treated the whole outside world as our toilet!

Yeah that's the intention. What is more likely is that someone rather use his fingers and smear it over the stall.
