This is part of what ruined gaming for me, just picking a game to play became more of a commitment than the game itself. In the 90s it was simple, swing through any of the stores that sold software once every month or two and spend a few minutes browsing the games, buy something if it interested me, or maybe buy one of those magazines that would have a cdrom of shareware/demos to try. The last time I tried to find a game to play I gave up almost immediately, just too many options.

The author points out over 120 games last year alone were rated over 80%.

Grab a list, filter out genres you don't like and consoles you don't have, then throw a dart. You probably won't go wrong.

ofalkaed•4mo ago
That does not seem to work with best seller lists or billboard top 100, etc, why should it work here? The consensus is just the consensus, it does not take into account my interests in gaming; granted, my interests do not really play any part into the consensus but they are my interests. I like head cheese and that is not going to change just because most people won't even try it.

Very often, I have a look at steam "released" and "upcoming" (only the native elf/linux titles though).

Basically, it is only trash, and sometimes you do stumble across what looks like a real game.

And among those lookalike real games, hardly any seem to be engaging enough.

It is a tough call.
