Mylinux an OS by Me

2•Mylinux-os•4mo ago
Hey everyone,

Hi everybody! I am 13 years old from India who has created a linux distro. It is live on github as rolling release model.

Link for github: www.github.com/pro1234123/Mylinux

I have also made a simple yet effective website for Mylinux hosted using github pages.

Link for website:

pro1234123.github.io/Mylinux

The repo is still in early development but the os is rigorously tested. The latest release also packs support to boot from real hardware.

I hope for your support Please try it out and share your feedbacks on how to improve Thanks!

Congrats on the launch! Some tips:

Rename the submission to “Show HN: MyLinux, a minimal and modular linux distro” or something similar. Show HN is explicitly for things you built.

https://news.ycombinator.com/show

See the links at the top of that page for tips.

> community-driven

Seems like the repo is pretty recent. “Community-driven” probably doesn’t apply when the community is small and you’re the only one driving it.

> rigorously tested

Same thing here. How rigorous was the testing, for something just released?

> simple yet effective website

Again here. How do you know the website is “effective”?

It seems you might be following the buzzwords from our industry which are fast becoming meaningless from overuse. My recommendation: Don’t. Don’t write something because you think it should be there, don’t add meaningless adjectives, don’t copy every one else. Focus on what truly is there, on your differentiating goals, on why you’re making that.

> Minimalist core with modular extensions

That is a good example of a specific value proposition and something you could focus on. Expand on that: What exactly does it mean to have modular extensions? How easy are they to add? How does one do that?

Include screenshots. People want to see what something looks like before trying it out. They want to have a feel for the experience.

> Join Discord

The link is broken. Still, I’d recommend you consider something which isn’t closed off to people without an account. Discord is bad for preservation and sharing knowledge with the most people.

Finally, “MyLinux” is quite the generic name. If this takes off you’ll probably regret it and have to change it, so it’s a good idea to start thinking of it now.

Again, congratulations on putting this out there. Don’t be discouraged by any of the above, all of them are suggestions. Ultimately it’s your project and you have the final say.
