Show HN: Vello's high-performance 2D GPU engine to .NET

https://github.com/wieslawsoltes/VelloSharp/releases/tag/v0.5.0-alpha.1
6•wiso•3mo ago
VelloSharp v0.5.0-alpha.1 is now available, delivering Vello’s high-performance 2D GPU engine to .NET atop the wgpu 3D backend. Integrates cleanly with Avalonia, WPF, and WinForms to modernize rendering pipelines without disruptive rewrites.

Looks like a lot of effort went into productizing this package. Given that effort, AGPL-v3 seems like a poor choice of license. Avalonia, WPF, and WinForms are, I think, mainly used in corporate contexts these days. Whether one likes AGPL-v3 or not, corporate environments seem reliably resistant to it.
wiso•3mo ago
For example Avalonia offers closed source paid offering compared to my work which is free to use with AGPL-v3 I would call it great choice of licensing instead doing closed source release you have to pay? Also corporate can afford to license this project for sure, don't they. Project solves huge performance issues being even 100x faster then other offerings like SkiaSharp in .NET landscape.
wiso•3mo ago
For perspective VelloSharp compared to SkiaSharp (similar 2D rendering api) is about 100x faster with complex animated 2D scenes and scales with fast GPU.
