Apple is killing old phones/Macs instantly with the glass thing

8•vasan•7h ago
I don't understand why Apple even did this whole glass UI thing. The glass effect uses the gyro forever and drains the battery. Apple used to slow-kill old phones but this is instant.

Apple has done the gyro for effects things off and on since iOS 7 or 8 I believe

You posted this on Ask HN, but what are you asking? This seems to be just a low quality three sentence rant.
alienpingu•5h ago
As an iPhone SE 2022 owner, you should disable transparency effects from the settings, which helps with battery drain.

The worst thing about iOS 26 is battery management when the phone is off. I know it may seem absurd, but the ‘find-me’ feature, which also works when the phone is off overnight (8 hours), consumes 50% of the battery when the phone is off.

brudgers•5h ago
I read an HN comment on a similar rant that postulated Apple's goal is to force developers to write transparent UI's because writing software for Vision Pro does not make economic sense to developers...and Vision Pro needs software with transparent UI's.
boars_tiffs•47m ago
this actually makes a lot of sense

oh god...
